The annual Alleyway Art Festival returns in person next month; the deadline is approaching to participate in the student art exhibition

The sixth annual Alley Art Festival, a free community event with live entertainment, art demonstrations and children’s activities, will take place June 11 at Green Oak Ranch in Vista.

The non-profit, all-ages festival is organized by a collaboration of community arts groups, led by the Vista Art Foundation and the Backfence Society. The festival aims to inspire creativity and focuses on the appreciation and diversity of art. The event features local, regional and emerging artists.

Artists will exhibit a range of works from contemporary to traditional, including kinetic art, sculpture, concept creations, music, puppets and paintings. Visitors can chat with the artists about their work.

Highlights include music, art demonstrations, a “puppet parade”, painting, sculpture, children’s art activities, food trucks and an artists’ market.

The Artists’ Market will include paintings on canvas, jewelry, paper crafts, photography, home decor, ceramics, gift items and other artistic creations sold by vendors.

The family-oriented event will include a juried student art exhibit and cash prizes; first prize is $300, second is $150, and third is $50. The deadline for registration is Tuesday. To enter the show, visit

To inspire budding artists, a kids’ arts and crafts station will be offered, where children can create a work of art to take home. There will also be a puppet parade open to all, featuring giant puppets and cosplayers made by the attendees.

The event was hosted by the Vista-based nonprofit Backfence Society. The group formed in 2011 as an autonomous group of North County artists working together to produce interactive art events. The mission of the non-profit organization is to provide an affordable and accessible platform for established and emerging artists. The group works to foster relationships that mutually benefit the community and local artists.

The non-profit organization was created with the idea that “the industrious nature of creativity leads to positive change in our community and the Backfence Society advocates supporting each other in embracing the connection we experience through the art and its various forms,” according to the Backfence Society website. .

The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 11 at the Green Oak Ranch, 1237 Green Oak Road.
