Second July date added for Louth Plein Air Art Festival 2022

Following the success of the Drogheda site last year, there is not just one stunning venue for the Louth Plein Air Art Festival 2022, but two; Carlingford on Saturday July 16 and Les Jardins de Beaulieu on Sunday July 17.

Take part in both days or just one day, for the same registration fee, it’s up to you!

Artists, leave for Carlingford on Saturday 16 and stroll through the cobbled streets, the port or the marina; find a perfect spot to pull out your canvas and paint a masterpiece.

Or… Beaulieu House and Gardens which is a private estate outside Drogheda on the banks of the River Boyne with a stately home, walled gardens, woodland, church and cemetery on site. Last year the artists found themselves not having enough time in the park to paint, with so many choices of beautiful flowers, landscapes and the house itself that they wanted to come back to experience more again outdoor relaxing painting.

The Festival is in Drogheda all day Sunday July 17 from 9:30 am to 5 pm where artists can paint and enjoy Beaulieu Park.

“I paint outdoors myself and think it would be an amazing experience for a novice or professional alike,” says artist and organizer Leonora Reilly. “There are so many songwriting opportunities in every location that I think you’ll love the chance to capture them; for our local artists to celebrate outdoor art”.

The registration fee to participate is €35 – for one or both days, you decide. Mentoring and workshops are billed separately.

Professional artists – Richard Moore, Henry McGrane and Ciaran Dunlevy will lead a workshop or mentorship on festival days at an additional cost to the entry fee.

“My sole purpose when deciding to hold this event in Co Louth was to hope that I could emulate the experience I had painted – a sense of calm, joy and general peace as you get lost in the environment and you become engrossed in the painting process, meeting other like-minded artists and trying new experiences,” says Leonora.

“Having personally experienced Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year as a Wild Card in 2019 and the Dublin Plein Air Festival since 2020, there’s no better feeling than being out in the fresh air in creating art with other artists and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day”.

This event is open to all levels of artists, from professionals to amateurs.

The day will take place from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an exhibition of works on easels at the end of the day, for price. It also offers the general public the opportunity to purchase artwork directly from the artists on the day.

Parking in Beaulieu for the day will be €5, inside the Maison Beaulieu. This car park is a short walk from the main house and gardens. There will be stewards present on the day to guide you to your parking spot.
