Lost Sierra Plein Art Festival starts Tuesday
The Lost Sierra Plein Air Festival, May 31-June 4, kicks off Tuesday, May 31 at 7 a.m. when plein-air painters from across Northern California (some nationally recognized) and one from Las Vegas come to town and check in at Bear Creek Executives.
” outside ” is a French term which means to paint “in the open air”. Outdoor painters face rapidly changing light conditions and paint bravely in all weathers.
The artists will then go to the Lost Sierra to paint. Some take a two-day workshop from Plein Air Painters of America Vice President Kimball Geisler. The festival guide will be available at Bear Creek Frames and other businesses in town starting today.
On Friday, June 3, the artists will present two canvases produced during the week at Bear Creek Frames. They will be tried and hanged for the artistic march on the first Friday. There’s a People’s Choice award, so be sure to come and vote for your favorite. There will be painting demonstrations on the First Friday Art Walk from 5-7 p.m. on the sidewalk outside Main Street Art Galley and Tricia Hollyhox outside Bear Creek Frames. The Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony at the Bear Creek Frames Gallery will take place from 5 to 8 p.m.; 5-6 is by invitation only.
