Cottonwood Art Festival selects Marjolyn van der Hart as featured artist for May 7-8 – The Durango Herald

RICHARDSON, Texas, Feb. 25, 2022 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Cottonwood Art Festival has selected Marjolyn van der Hart as the featured artist for the 53rd biannual exhibition in Richardson, Texas. A panel of jurors reviewed the works of hundreds of artists competing in 14 categories and chose the Canadian mixed media artist to represent the spring event scheduled for May 7-8. Marjolyn’s custom artwork is incorporated into the new poster, festival merchandise, marketing graphics and recent collection of originals available for purchase at her stand.

Creating captivating scenes with layers of nostalgia, Marjolyn uses history to piece together charming stories. The meticulously layered work expresses how men and women face the global demand for perfection. They tell the story of perseverance, challenges of change, outlook and positive attitudes.

“For the past two years, the Cottonwood Art Festival has been incredibly supportive of me promoting my work online,” said Marjolyn van der Hart. “These lean years of not showing in person at festivals haven’t deterred their group of loyal art-loving collectors. I can’t wait to see and thank the patrons of Cottonwood themselves for their generosity in sharing a new body of work that brings them some nostalgia and joy.

Marjolyn’s art captures the realistic need to normalize the challenges of balancing work and home. Her work encourages boosted self-esteem, fosters empowerment, and accepts that an occasional escape from the bonds of reality is not only tranquil, but often a requirement for self-regulation.

The artist and her family reside in Toronto and she travels extensively throughout North America to show her work at prestigious art fairs, including the Cottonwood Art Festival. Marjolyn is represented by Blue Crow Gallery in Toronto and Wall Space Gallery in Ottawa, Canada.
