Cape Coral Art Festival set to boost business

Despite the increase in COVID-19 cases, more than 100,000 people are expected to flock to the Cape Coral Art Festival. The festival is back with all its music and vendors after the live events were canceled last year.

Businesses are hoping the number of people will give them a boost. Vinny Tumminello couldn’t be happier. Tumminello has owned Sicily Trattoria along Cape Coral Pwky for 11 years.

“Tthere art festivals [have] always been very good to us. They close the road, which makes it pleasant for pedestrians to walk, ”Tumminello said.

About 300 artists are vendors who will line the streets this weekend. For Tumminello, this is good news since last year’s festival has gone virtual. “The sellers have all invested a lot of time going out and traveling and trusting us to put on a good show. And again, it’s always been good throughout the year. I have no doubt that this year it will be a success, ”he said.

However, festival organizers admit that the recent wave of omicron may make people hesitate or even scare them. Cape Coral Rotary Club President-elect and Cape Coral Art Festival President Bob Welch said the art festival typically attracts over 100,000 people.

“I’m getting a little nervous because of other events that have happened that have now opened to the public and opened to a live venue, they’ve seen an increase in their attendance,” Welch said.

Welch hopes that holding the event outdoors will make people feel safe. And, so far, the feedback he has received has been all positive. So the event will continue, which business owners like Tumminello need and want to hear.

“It’s great for the community. It’s time for everyone to get their act together, ”Tumminello said.

The Cape Coral Art Festival and Market Place opens on Saturday at 10 a.m. and will remain open until Sunday afternoon. And, if you can’t make it to Cape Coral this weekend, there’s a virtual art festival running through January 28.
