Angela Kemsley presents a free family event that will focus on California’s 124 Marine Protected Areas. These areas are a type of “underwater park” that protects our wetlands, coasts and oceans. There are 11 such areas in San Diego County that protect our sandy shores, tidal pools, kelp forests, underwater canyons, and lagoons, like Batiquitos.

When: Saturday June 11 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Where: Batiquitos Lagoon Nature Center, 7380 Gabbiano Lane, Carlsbad.

Alley Art Festival in Vista

This year, Alley Art Festival will be held at the Green Oak Ranch in Vista.

Free event with artist market, live music and entertainment, raffles, storytelling, student art exhibit, cash prizes, food and art activities for children. A puppet parade featuring giant puppets and cosplay will begin at 11 a.m. and will be led by Twisted Heart Puppetworks. Parade in the procession with any creation or costume related to the theme “Spirits of nature” (animal cosplay or giant fairy puppets). This procession is open to the public.

When: Saturday, June 11, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Green Oak Ranch, 41237 Green Oak Road, Vista.
